1971 Land Rover series IIA 109 LHD
When Richard approached us at the beginning of 2000, he was working in France and planning a tour through Europe and into North Africa. He commissioned us to locate and refurbish a suitable Land Rover. 12 months and a few changes of plan later he has just taken delivery. This is what he had to say about it all:
Hi Mark,
Great news! The vehicle arrived safely yesterday afternoon at the Tacoma docks. It looks absolutely perfect in every respect and is a joy to drive. We couldn’t be happier. Can’t seem to stop at a traffic light or service station without someone complimenting it or wanting to discuss Land Rovers they’ve owned or ridden in…
Have taken it on a couple errands this morning and it runs very smoothly and so far everyone I’ve shown it to says it’s the best example of an old Land Rover they’ve ever seen. Thanks so much for all your help and advice over many months of putting this vehicle together. I’ll send better pictures soon and give you an update of how things are going. Just wanted to let you know that I am very, very pleased. Now all I have to do is find time for that trip to North Africa…
Best regards,
Rick
p.s. photos (below) are of the vehicle at its new home on Bainbridge Island
August 2001 update:
Just a few pictures of WWT355J in action at our recent wedding on Orcas Island, Washington. It made for a great escape car after the ceremony and also a rather practical troop carrier for the drunken hordes at the bachelor party as we tottered from bar to bar – amazing how many people
you can fit into the back…
Couldn’t be more pleased with the vehicle. It continues to perform flawlessly after a putting a couple thousand miles on the clock and attracts the compliments of Rover owners and fans whenever we take it out. Have taken the hard top off for the summer and it’s great fun to tool around the island with fishing poles and passengers bouncing about in back. Hope to fit the canvas top soon when time allows.
Hope all is well with you. Thanks again for all your hard work putting the vehicle together. Needless to say the overdrive was a stellar idea on your part – sure makes the highway miles pass a lot more comfortably.
Best regards,
Rick Wilson
