Can you remember 1983 ? Margaret Thatcher won her second term in office, and the music of the year included “Uptown Girl” and “Karma Chameleon.
If you were old enough to drive, and had the means – you may have been visiting your local Land Rover Dealer and seen the latest limited edition offering – the Range Rover “In Vogue” – Arguably the first “Posh” Range Rover.
The Range Rover “In Vogue” model, was developed with the help of Wood and Pickett. The idea was a classical one: up-specify the interior and offer a range of special colours to make it stand out from the standard models. The choice of name followed the interesting marketing plan that involved lending a car to the glamour magazine Vogue and have them use the car as a backdrop for one of their high publicity photo shoots.
The term “Vogue” has of course now become synonymous with the Range Rover brand.
37 years later, Land Rover Centre is proud to be able to offer this stunning example. One of 325 UK market 4 door examples, this one has all it’s original features:
- High-compression (9.35:1) engine
- Transfer box with taller (0.996:1) high ratio
- Polished wooden door cappings
- Stowage box between front seats
- Map pockets on back of front seats
- Fully carpeted load area
- Carpet material for spare wheel cover and tool kit curtain
- Picnic hamper in rear loadspace
- Stainless steel tailgate capping
- Black centre caps for the wheels
Many Range Rover enthusiasts will know immediately that the picnic hamper and cool box are the two outstanding features of this particular model. Unfortunately many of these were retained by the owners when they eventually exchanged their “In Vogue” for a newer model.
This Range Rover would enhance any classic car collection, or alternatively suit someone looking for a show vehicle.
