Having been restoring Land Rovers for over 40 years, it is not uncommon for us to receive a message from a “New Owner” of one of our Land Rovers, with a request for any information.
That was the case this week, when Gavin from Kent contacted us about “RJF 81W”:
“Hi there – I wanted to say I thrilled to have bought one of your old LR Series 3’s.
She’s been with a lovely couple in Chesterfield – who bought it from you in 1997 after she’d been refurbished meticulously by The Land Rover Centre.
8 years with them , 8 years in Buckinghamshire and now perhaps I’ll have to keep her 8 years with my family in Kent
She’s only done 15,000 miles since she left you in 1997 16 years ago- and clearly been loved ever since.
If you have any history, previous ownership to 1997 etc – I’d love to know…I guess there weren’t computers in those days!???”
He included a current picture with his e mail – which shows she is still in very tidy condition.
We were quickly able to confirm that we sold it back in 1997, confirm the mileage, and also confirm that it had been refurbished by us.
Unfortunately we could not find a photo dating back to 1997 – but whilst looking, we did find some pictures of “AEV 923A” – a 1962 Series IIA that we sold to Michael, in Carmel Valley – California in 1998.
He still has the Land Rover, and we were recently able to help him identify the correct brake parts he needed – following a long period of the vehicle being unused.
