I am often asked by potential Series Land Rovers owners if the Series Land Rovers are suitable for longer trips . . .
. . . My reply is always the same “I love them to bits – But i wouldn’t want to set off to the South of France in one !”
And that is true – The Series Land Rovers are a simple machine, and with simplicity comes reliability. However, they are happy pottering along at 50 to 55 mph – Which is not”really” ideal on modern motorways.
Sure – over the years, we have had MANY customers who have driven them out to say France or Spain – but it is at a steady pace.
Today we were contacted by Dan Coll who is a Yorkshire born and bred actor, director and producer – with TV acting credits that include; CORONATION STREET, WHERE THE HEART IS, HEARTBEAT, LITTLE BIRD and ALWAYS AND EVERYONE.
He explained that along with fellow actor Dan Carey – (whose TV credits include; FRED and ROSE, BRUM, VISA (Academy Films) and NHS SECURITY ) – Four years ago, they had come up with the (harebrained ?) idea of setting off to Gibraltar in a 1960’s Land Rover, with a full tank of fuel and £10 in their pockets !!
and so the foundations of “The Middle aged road trip” had been set!
However, they explained to me that they would be setting off on Sunday 5th October and they had been let down on the loan of a Land Rover for the trip ! (no pressure then !)
So – It was an easy decision for Land Rover Centre to step in and “save the day” (Their words – not ours !)
We have pulled one of our classic Land Rovers from sale “DAR 445F” and will be handing it over to Dan and Dan on Saturday – “Just in time” for their trip.

The trip will start in Hebden Bridge, Yorkshire at 4 pm on the 5th of October when we set off to Manchester, Dover, Paris, Spain and finally finishes in Gibraltar with a show on 15th October.
